Biosketch

Dr. Oliver D. Abanto has the expertise on live animal and carcass evaluation and developments of standards and grades. He has worked on the evaluation of carcass yield and meat quality of Philippine carabao and their crossbreds, different breed of goats, and native pigs. He studied various functional foods and nutritional supplements to regulate adipogenesis, immune system, chicken and egg production, egg quality, and bone development. His notable achievements in the Philippine animal industry was his active participations in the establishment of the Philippine National Standards (PNS) for Live Grading for Slaughter Cattle and Carabaos, Chicken Cuts; and the revision of the PNS for Beef Primal Cuts and Pork Cuts. Dr. Abanto believes in the importance of multidisciplinary approach of research that is driven by the demand of the industry and is adherent to sustainable and safe food production geared towards achieving food security and healthy living.
