Biosketch

Prof. Malilay’s passion for research and instruction has led him to pursue a Master’s degree in Animal Science. As a graduate student, he received a full scholarship under DOST-ASTHRDP. He also participated in a student exchange program in Japan which has broadened his knowledge and experience in food safety and security. In 2018, he graduated as class valedictorian and received the UPLB-GS Academic Excellence Award and DOST-SEI Academic Excellence Award in Science and Technology. He was awarded the PSAS 2018 Best Paper in Dairy Research and Best Paper Award in Production and Processing for his research work on the determination of the antioxidant activity of different milk systems fermented with locally isolated lactic acid bacteria. Shortly after his graduation, he was employed as Senior Science Research Specialist at the Dairy Training and Research Institute under the Career Incentive Program of the Department of Science and Technology, where he and his colleagues aimed to establish a farm to consumer milk quality and safety assurance system. In July 2020, he joined the Institute as an Assistant Professor of Dairy Technology. Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. degree in Engineering (Biotechnology) at the Osaka University (Japan) under the PhilDOST-Osaka University Graduate Scholarship in Biotechnology and Molecular Biology Program.
