The UPLB CAFS Institute of Animal Science through its Public Safety and Waste Management Committee chaired by Ms. Eden S. Walitang, University Researcher II, held a school feeding program themed “REpaying the Community with a cup of ArrozcalDO” or IAS RECADO last 7 December.
Paciano Rizal Elementary School (PRES) in Barangay Tuntungin-Putho, Los Baños, Laguna was chosen as the school beneficiary to cater 858 pupils and 36 teachers. The program aimed to nourish the hearts and minds of students with Dr. Rommel C. Sulabo, IAS Director; Mr. John Carlo F. Pacia, University Research Associate II; and Ms. Marichele M. Rebenque, Administrative Officer V as organizers.
This initiative is a testament to UPLB’s commitment to community engagement and holistic development. By addressing challenges such as time constraints, financial limitations, and food insecurity, the RECADO feeding program seeks to contribute to the thriving sense of community on the UPLB campus and to foster an environment where students can flourish academically and personally. IAS personnel distributed hot meals that provided essential nutrition and opportunities for social interaction, creating a supportive network and collaboration between IAS and the selected community. This collaborative spirit aligns with UPLB’s mission to extend its impact beyond academic excellence into the broader community.
PRES principal Jane A. Ilagan expressed her sincere gratitude to the UPLB CAFS IAS for adopting their school in the RECADO program. As the Institute continues its commitment to public safety and community welfare, the RECADO Feeding Program stands as a beacon of hope and nourishment, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of those it has touched.
