The Institute of Animal Science (IAS) conducted the “Basic Training Course on Swine Production and Management” last February 18-20 for 20 selected young farmer leaders from Cordillera Autonomous Region and Regions 1 to 13 except Region 9.
The course is one of the modules under the pre-departure orientation course for an 11- month intensive on-farm training in Japan under Batch 2019, a program funded by the Agricultural Training Institute, Department of Agriculture. This training course was aimed to impart to the trainees an understanding of the basic principles of swine production and management, as well as an appreciation of the different management skills through actual application and practice.
The resource speakers were Drs. Rommel C. Sulabo, Percival P. Sangel, Agapita J. Salces and Nenita L. de Castro; Prof. Carla Alilie A. Lontoc, and Herald Nygel F. Bautista. The practicum part was conducted at the National Swine and Poultry Research and Development Center, Bureau of Animal Industry in Tiaong, Quezon.
